All those bad guys should have been apprehended and executed by the King, witnessed by Dan Won and Yoon Bok. Why were they after the portrait painting? Why did the Prince have to be revered? Painter of the Wind was daring in terms of portraying love and relationships. Even one of the storylines unabashedly explored homosexuality in a subtle yet frank manner.
The female-female attraction between Jeong Hyang, the gisaeng Moon Chae Won and Yoon Bok was unadorned, but their relationship developed purely out of love and care towards one another. As Dan Won said himself, Yoon Bok to him was his teacher, student, friend, and love. There was no absolute way to power iso free download for win8 their relationship. This drama clearly did not have the typical romantic boy-meets-girl relationship often found in Kdramas. Sure it lacked romance but it contained a lot of love. Ultimately, it was the unconditional love that was rendered so beautifully within the relationships that substantiated the drama.
Even the King had a heart that was capable of forgiveness. The protagonists were mature, sensible, and more subdued unlike those typical Kdrama characters who are often written with over-the-top distinct quirkiness just for the sake of being interesting or different which is not necessarily a bad thing. Also, you know how they are often so irrational and erratic they could turn on a dime anytime. Painterthough, was different. Its characters were solidly written with such care and delicacy to work with the overall tone of the drama, thanks to Writer-Nim.
Their actions and words were reasonable in the sense that I could understand why they did certain things or reacted to things in a certain way. There were no unnecessary dramas between any of the protagonists, which I appreciated. She was hurt and heartbroken, but she just walked away slowly in silent tears without any condemnation. Poignant and beautiful. I loved how flashbacks and imaginations were incorporated into the plotlines to convey mood.
Not everything had to be stated verbally. Every exchange of glances between Dan Won and Yoon Bok was meaningful it manifested their palpable connection. What it suggested could be freely interpreted by viewers. To me, it was how they communicated. Same thing with Yoon Bok and Jeong Hyang. Their chemistry was undeniable and it showed through the eyes.
Each of their paintings carried a subtext and interpretation of a story. Those delicate brush strokes accompanied with the rich score heightened the atmosphere of the drama. There is always a great actor behind a great character, IMO. Just as Yoon Bok is a naturally gifted painter, Moon is a naturally gifted actress. She was perfectly cast for the role. She played Yoon Bok with believable boyishness, sublime intensity, endearing vulnerability, and just the right amount of adorableness.
Most importantly, she emoted very well. Her co-star Park Shin Yang was a little too old to be paired with her, I agree. I kinda got used to him after a few episodes in. He was 40 yrs old when filming this drama, but looked Good news is, looks are not everything to me.
The way I saw it, Dan Won the character was supposed to be mature, ordinary-looking, maybe a little scruffy since he spent 10 years in exile, playing hide and seek with tigersand a little eccentric well he was an artist.
